| Tumor and blood in the right middle cerebellar peduncle. |
This middle aged man developed some relatively minor neurological findings after treatment for kidney cancer (renal cell ca). Gamma knife was recommended, but after the first use of radition, the tumor bled, causing very severe neurological findings. After 6 months, the patient was left with unsteadiness and loss of coordination of the right arm, as well as a speech disturbance.
Commentary: The purpose of radiation is to kill tumor, but it can also kill normal nervous system structures. This is an unusual situation where the tumor bled.
