Northwestern University had the honor of hosting a traveling quilt exhibit
sponsored by the Vestibular Disorders
Association (VEDA). The Vestibular Quilt brings attention to balance disorders
and diseases that affected millions of Americans. Using fabric as their medium,
nine people from various parts of the country who are affected by balance disorders
created the quilt to depict how it feels to have problems with balance. Completed
in September 1997, the Vestibular Quilt began a year long journey in Portland,
Oregon. It travelled nationally to major medical centers active in the treatment
and research of balance disorders. During the month of February 1998, the Vestibular
Quilt was displayed at the Otology Clinic of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation,
in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The project originated with the Vestibular
Disorders Association (VEDA), a non-profit organization that provides information
and support to people with balance disorders. For more information on vestibular
disorders, send a business-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope to VEDA,
PO Box 4467, Portland, Oregon, 97208-4467.
