Providers and Staff:
ProvidersProviders are people who provide medical care -- There are three provider groups -- physicians, physical therapists, and audiologists. Physicians(Diagnosis and oversight of treatment of dizziness and hearing disorders)
Dr. Hain is the main physician at Chicago Dizziness and Hearing. He works with a team of other providers. There are often students at various levels working with Dr. Hain. (Dr. Hain has shaved off his beard since this picture was taken).
Dr. Cherchi is presently a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Hain. Click on his name to find out more about his background. Physical Therapy: Janet Helminski, Ph.D, P.T. is the main vestibular physical therapist at Chicago Dizziness and Hearing. She is has been a vestibular physical therapist since 1988, and she often gives courses on vestibular rehabilitation. Janet is also an associate professor at Midwestern University, a PT school in a suburb of Chicago (Downers Grove), where she teaches neuroscience. Nicole Steinberg, DPT, works in vestibular physical therapy both for Chicago Dizziness and Hearing (all day on Friday) and also for Peak Therapeutics, another vestibular rehabilitation practice in Chicago. While the "DPT degree stands for "doctor of physical therapy, it is not a "medical doctor" degree. If you have medical questions, you should direct them to the medical doctors in the practice.
Audiologists:(Hearing Testing, Hearing aids, Vestibular testing)
Audrey Cameron, Au.D., is the audiologist who does or supervises our testing, fits hearing aids, and does research related to dizziness and balance. Her email is audiology@dizziness-and-balance.com. Audrey has an "Au.D." degree - -or in other words, she is a doctor of audiology. The "Au.D." degree is not a "medical doctor" degree. Audrey is very experienced with difficult diagnostic procedures and hearing aids. Audrey does all of our "full" hearing testing, as well as ECOG testing. She supervises all other testing, which is done by staff. Staff:Staff are people who support the providers -- they answer the telephone, transmit messages to and from providers, and in general, make sure that things happen.
Reception, which includes scheduling new and return appointments, scheduling testing as needed, as well as check-in and check-out from the clinic is done by all of our staff. Reception staff can be reached via email or the main clinic number (312-274-0197). Email is best if you have something brief to do -- such as make or break a return appointment.
Our medical assistants, under the direction of Dr. Hain, refill medications, answer questions, provides test results when they haven't been gotten already in the mail, and arranges for forms to be filled out such as FMLA or disabilty forms. Carlos is our lead medical assistant. Other medical assistants include Lupe and Monica. They can be reached via email or the main clinic phone # -- 312-274-0197. We also have a part-time Physicians assistant, Loli. Loli may call you or email you if you have difficult problems that our medical assistants are unable to solve.
Milica, is our otology assistant. She performs most vestibular testing. VEMP testing, posturography, screening hearing tests, and OAE's are done both by our otology assistant as well as medical assistants. These are highly automated procedures that can be done by persons with less training than an audiologist. While these procedures are performed by technicians, they are all interpreted by one of the otoneurology physicians in the office. This allows us to consider the test results within the clinical context. In our opinion, this process is far superior to going to a "stand-alone" testing practice, where the audiologst or technician doing the testing is not reasonably able to put the testing into the context of the whole patient's clinical situation. Business office:
Our business manager can be reached at the email above. She handles human resources and oversees accounting.
Fax: (773) 345-0429 Jordan is our medical biller. He is the person to contact if something has gone wrong with your bill. Messages can be left for Jordan at the main clinic #, 312-274-0197, extension 888. Medicolegal support:
In our practice, there are frequently situations where people become dizzy after an injury (such as an auto accident), and this results in a legal action after several years. Dr. Hain also sometimes is asked to provide expert testimony about certain dizzy conditions. We have a part-time paralegal to help with these situations. Bruce will assist in getting records reviewed and organized, scheduling IME's, depositions or trial dates. Please read our disclaimer Page last modified: January 31, 2008
